I have to inform them and you. Too many calls to entertain as to whether it was me who contested in Permatng Pauh by-election. I said..nope. I am Hanafi Mamat, former state assemblyman for Pengkalan Pasir, Kelantan and the President of Pejuta (Persatuan Juruukur Tanah Bertauliah Malaysia). I am happy with what Im doing now. Please, I am not that Hanafi Mamat the President of AKIM who goes cross-border contesting. Anyway he is a good chap and subscribes to global village politics as espoused in IT environment. Me and him are miles apart. I live in a real village. Now you know ahh..
food for thoughts
September 3, 2008Conspiracy or konspirasi has now become a frequent mantra and regular chants. And that of course it started froma leader’s mouth and recepted by the ordinary on the street. How on earth can someone swallow anything that a leader says or assumes without chewing. When a deed is suspected of leading to a criminal theory and is reported to the police, a person with a right of frame mind will say, go investigate and gather evidence to prove . The court is there to uphold justice handing out verdicts.Hopefully in all fairness. Mind you, this is Institutional verdict and not citizens verdict (that is sometimes laced with political partisanship). This is a question of justice both natural and moral. The victim needs justice likewise the villain has to be vindicated however powerful he is. Give some thoughts to the recent sodomy case.
When the whole world started shouting conspiracy, the moral fear will be that nobody ever believes anybody. The day will come when everyone will believe that the court is as much as a conspirant itself. And consequently, institutions will fail to uphold truth and justice. Then anarchy will be at the doorstep.
Take corruption as a case. No one is quilty until proven so. Therefore let institutions deal with the givers and the takers, as it takes two to tango. Politicising will extinguish justice. For the first time in modern malaysian history, a corruption case suspect is proctected by a state. At stake is not the man but the credibiltity of the state that jump the gun before justice takes its course. We are so soaked up with conspiracy theory that blinded everything including truth.

September 2, 2008I have always wanted to serve the rural folks since i hailed or was from there. While at the university, friends had from time to time joked that one day I would be the menteri of kelantan, not because they thought that I had the charisma or the cut, but the subjects that i always bragged made them bored. Poverty, education, fragmented land holdings, poor padi farmers, health , environment, agrarian reform, pajak gadai exploitation of poor folks, janda muda, cerai berai, …and blah blah. Not many friends then were interested in those subjects. Jobs…in the 70’s ,PTD,civil engineer…district surveyor, cars, marriage..were better subjects. For all I realised I was slowly moving into my own world of interests…getting entrenched into the funny and unique kelantan politics with a handful of friends. Shouldering odd struggles while mingling among mixed blend of educated and illiterate rural masses. I began to get interested in them. They were nice and simple and sometimes naive. I relialised that I have to be with them and thus I came back to my roots and planted myself, first by buliding a small house in Kampong Lemal. And I suddenly found that I was running after something which you wouldnt know when it’s going to end. Politics and Living.
